Hanging Rock State Park
Hanging Rock State Park offers a great outdoor experience with 73 site campgrounds, picnic grounds, 20 miles of hiking trails, great views, waterfalls, lakes for swimming and canoeing. Their park map gives you a great overview of the park.
Boating and Fishing
At Hanging Rock anyone can fish that is over the age of 16 years old with an NC fishing license. You can rent a rowboat or canoe to heighten your experience however, private boats are not allowed. The Dan River runs through Hanging Rock which consists of mainly smallmouth bass and sunfish.
Swimming
Enjoy a 12-acre lake tucked in the hills formed by a damming of Cascade Creek. A forest extends the shoreline which offers views of the surrounding woodlands. Right next to the lake is a stone and timber bathhouse that includes restrooms, dressing rooms, a snack bar, and a lounge area.
Picnicking
One of the best things about Hanging Rock is the access of 60 picnic sites and 15 grills. Drinking water, restrooms, and shelters are at most picnic areas.
Mountain Biking
Enjoy the thrill of riding at Hanging Rock's bike trails with rock ledges, fast flow, stream crossing, and great views.
Climbing
For those thrill seekers, rock climbing is available by permit. Cook's Wall and Moore's Wall are a series of cliffs up to 400ft high extending almost two miles.
